Trust
My Turn with Kevin Kearns

"Trust" sounds like a simple concept, but whether you are training elite athletes or CEOs, you need to establish and maintain trust in all respects.
My good friend Jesse Kropelnicki, who is a coach of world class triathletes and runners, has a solid stance on this as well.  He and I both agree that if you don't completely have an athlete's trust - it will be problematic. Whether it's a client and one coach relationship or a client and many coaches, it's a team concept all around. The team has one goal: to help the athlete maximize their potential.
There is no magic bullet or magic person that will help an athlete win or perform better. When an athlete comes across something new to aid in their training - it's important for the team to have an open mind.  But there is a difference between evolving and revolving. Making major training changes at first can seem beneficial, but can become counterproductive as the body's systems become overly shocked.  This can then result in decreases in muscle mass, strength and aerobic capacity. In other words, the athlete can peak at the wrong time.
I'm 100 percent for picking up new tweaks and ideas from other people. That is how we evolve. However, if you have a formula that consistently works, don't try to fix something that is not broken. Many an athlete will try to shake things up when a big game or match comes up solely on impulse. Generally, this is based on a larger fear and not communicating concerns to their coaches.
A winning team has its foundation built on trust and loyalty. Each person on the team is confident that the next person knows their job and will execute effectively. If there is poor communication, there is no trust.

Active Rest

Exercise of the Month

Try this on for size during a workout.  Instead of resting between exercises pick something to balance on. It will increase your core strength and enhance your central nervous system demand.  Consider balancing on the following:
   - Bosu Ball
   - Voodoo Board
   - Tilt Board
   - Sitting on a stability ball elevated
   - Standing on one leg

Breakfast/Lunch Power Green Smoothie

Recipe of the Month

This smoothie is packed with good protein, fat and vitamins. It will jump start your day with energy to burn for hours.
I recommend you have this smoothie a minimum of 4 times during the week with variations to keep it fresh:
- 8 ounces of coconut milk (use the lite version - modifications would be: almond milk, soy milk)
- ½ fresh lime (peeled)
- ½ orange or grapefruit (peeled)
- ½ peeled cucumber
- 1 medium ripe avocado or ½ large avocado
- Cup of raw baby spinach
- 1 pkg og the green to go berry flavor
- 1 tbl spoon of juice plus (optional)
- 1 tbl spoon of almond butter (optional)
- 4 Baby tomatoes (optional)
- 1/3 cup of shredded coconut (optional)
- Cup of ice
Put all ingredients in a blender until thick and creamy.
Play with the recipe and discover what you prefer.  At times I have added various herbs to give the smoothie a different taste.  Try basil, mint and cilantro.
This recipe is straight from my good friend and business associate Michele Elise Burnett.
