Hand in Hand Project, a new initiative promoting dialogue and interaction between local police officers and young people

My Chief sent this Hand To Hand Program out to everyone tonight in our department. This video is so cool and moving. Perfect in my mind for Thanksgiving!

The Hand and Hand program helps connect the cops and kids in a way that makes a big difference in all their lives. It’s a positive way of building trust, police legitimacy and meaningful and lasting change, throughout communities. Sometimes touchy feely just doesn’t feel right to cops but that is usually because we have not tried it. Once you do you can get hooked to it. And yes you can be touchy feely and still be safe while working as a cop. It all about the strategic game of interaction and a smooth running OODA Loop. 

My good friend Marshall Wallace says and I am paraphrasing a bit; "Understanding what divides people is critical to understanding how interactions can feed into and support these forces or lessen them. Understanding what connects people despite conflict is critical to understanding how interactions reinforce and support, or undermine, those factors that can mitigate conflict or constitute positive forces for building harmony and a healthy society."

Most of us get into this job to help others, well this is one positive way of doing it. Boston Police Department in my mind have really reshaped their culture in a way that makes a big difference in not only their officers lives but in their city as well.
