Houston officer shoots car theft suspect

A rookie police officer shot and wounded a man early this morning after the suspect ran several stop signs as he drove a stolen car in north Houston and then appeared to threaten the officer.

Investigators said the shooting happened in the 8200 block of Lawn about 1:50 a.m. when the man walked toward the officer with his hands concealed and refused an order to stop.

The wounded man, who did not appear to be armed because no weapons were found, was taken to Northwest Memorial Hermann Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
