LEWISTON - A 20-hour police standoff with an armed man in a Lewiston apartment building ended around 12:30 a.m. Thursday morning when a police tactical team, along with a robot, entered the building and found the suspect dead. Police say he had shot and killed himself. They have not yet released the suspect's name, but they say he was 49 years old.

The standoff began around 5 a.m. Wednesday morning, and prompted police to close off an area near Holland Street and Oak Street.

Police say the incident began after the suspect allegedly threatened a neighbor, then went into his apartment and never came out. Police say the suspect, so far known only as "Dan," barricaded himself inside his home.
