Police train for a day they pray will never come

Drawing on lessons learned from both Columbine and North Hollywood, officers from Laconia and a dozen other police departments on Wednesday completed a course they hope to never use: How to end shooting incidents as quickly as possible, with the least loss of life.
Known as "Immediate Action/Rapid Deployment," the three-day course was hosted by Laconia Police and was conducted by Mike Odle, a 30-year member of the Los Angeles Police Department and a team leader of its Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) team who since April 1985 has responded to hundreds of SWAT-related incidents.
