Columbine anniversary reminds school officials, police preparedness is key By Keith Ferguson

A month away from the 11th anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting, Walpole police and school officials say they are prepared if anything like that tragedy were to happen locally.

“The issue is nobody thinks it’s going to happen to them and that’s dangerous,” said Lt. Fred Leland.

Police recently completed planning books for the Walpole School District and the Norfolk County Agricultural High School in the event of a crisis.

The plans are useful to study, Leland said, but “what good is that book going to do if something is going on?”
